Laser hair removal has become synonymous with smooth skin. It can completely remove unwanted hair or significantly reduce its growth, while also helping to prevent ingrown hairs and general skin irritation. The treatment is popular with both women and men. Women most commonly choose laser hair removal for the upper lip, legs, or underarms, while men often seek treatment for excess hair on the back, neck, and chest.
Which Areas Can Be Treated with Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal can be performed on virtually any area of the body. The most commonly treated areas include:
- face (upper lip, chin, cheeks, etc.)
- underarms
- groin and bikini line
- legs
- arms
- back, chest, and abdomen

What Is Laser Hair Removal and How Does It Work?
Laser hair removal works on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The laser light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair, which carries the energy down to the root. There, the energy is converted into heat, selectively destroying the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The laser is effective only on hairs in the active growth phase, when the hair contains the highest amount of pigment. Since hairs on the body are naturally in different stages of growth at any given time, several sessions are needed for long-lasting results. This allows the laser to target all hairs as they enter the growth phase. In most cases, around 6–8 sessions are sufficient.
How Long Do the Results of Laser Hair Removal Last?
After a full treatment series — usually 6–8 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart — hair growth in the treated area is significantly reduced, with long-lasting results. The level of permanent reduction can approach 100%. Occasionally, an individual hair may regenerate after some time. For this reason, an occasional maintenance session is recommended to target any remaining stray hairs.
What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal
Thanks to its advanced dynamic cooling system, the high-performance laser makes the treatment minimally uncomfortable. The duration of the procedure depends on the area being treated. For example, laser hair removal of the upper lip takes approximately 5 minutes, both forearms around 60 minutes, and the bikini or groin area about 50 minutes.

Is Your Hair Suitable for Laser Hair Removal?
Because the laser responds to dark pigment, the hair needs to be dark and clearly distinguishable from the surrounding skin. The greater the contrast between the hair and the skin, the better the conditions for treatment.
The skin should not be tanned — this also includes artificial tanning with self-tanning products — and the hairs should not be growing from tattooed skin. In these cases, the laser energy may be absorbed by the surrounding pigment instead of being focused on the hair itself, meaning the treatment will not achieve the desired effect.
Similarly, laser hair removal does not work on grey or white hairs. If you are considering the treatment, it is best not to postpone it for too long, as there is currently no other method that can effectively and permanently remove grey or white hairs. Unfortunately, dyeing the hair is not effective, as the dye does not penetrate down to the root. The laser would only affect the visible hair shaft, allowing the hair to grow back from the follicle.

- Avoid tanning beds and sunbathing for approximately 4 weeks before treatment.
- Do not pluck or wax the hair for approximately 4 weeks before the procedure.
- A few days before the treatment, shave the hair wet or trim it with scissors so that it is approximately 1–3 mm long on the day of the procedure. Be careful to avoid injuring the skin, especially when shaving.
- On the day of treatment, do not apply creams, deodorants, or self-tanning products to the skin.
- Immediately after the procedure and for about one week afterwards, avoid exposing the skin to direct sunlight, use SPF 50+, and avoid swimming pools and saunas.
- Between sessions, do not remove the hair with wax or an epilator — in short, avoid anything that could disturb the hair root. If needed, shave the area with a razor only.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active inflammation, injury or a mole at the treatment site, skin infections, eczema or psoriasis in the treated area, recent tanning, epilepsy triggered by light flashes, and the use of certain photosensitising medications, such as tetracyclines or isotretinoin.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal
This does not have a major impact in the long term, as even a plucked or chemically disrupted root will regenerate over time and the hair will grow back. What matters is that the hair is not removed in this way immediately before the treatment.
We commonly treat the bikini line. When it comes to full Brazilian laser hair removal, it is important to understand two things: hair can only be removed from the skin, not from mucous membranes, where hair may also grow. This means the result will never be completely perfect. You should also expect greater sensitivity in this area, although discomfort can be reduced by applying an anaesthetic cream before the procedure.
For approximately 3–4 weeks before treatment, avoid plucking, waxing, epilators, or any methods that disrupt the hair root, including certain depilatory creams. Around two days before the procedure, shave the selected area. During treatment, the hair should ideally be around 1–3 mm long so the laser can clearly target it.
Yes, laser hair removal significantly and permanently reduces hair growth. This is important to consider, for example, when treating the beard area or intimate areas. Occasionally, a maintenance session may be needed for a few individual hairs that regenerate and begin to grow again.
Thanks to cooling, the treatment is well tolerated. Most clients describe a mild tingling or warmth. For very sensitive areas, such as the groin, we use an anaesthetic cream.
This is highly individual and unfortunately cannot be accurately predicted, even during an in-person consultation. Usually, 6–8 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart are sufficient to target all hairs in the active growth phase.
Yes, the procedure requires no downtime. The skin may be temporarily red for several hours or even a few days, and you may experience a mild burning sensation or slight swelling. The only restriction is to protect the treated area from direct sunlight and mechanical friction.
Laser treatment is most effective on dark hair with a higher melanin content. Contrast with the skin is also very important, which means the laser is less effective on darker, tanned, or tattooed skin.
